Compass poster
Working together towards a social and sustainable society, rich in nature. The compass poster is aimed at a collective, network or organisation in which people are committed to greater goals. To comprehensively map initiatives for renewal and create a compass, on the road to realisation. On this poster the course of life of groups, teams, collectives can be visualised. The four pathways are key, related aspects. The sun represents purpose and is positioned on the poster to always be visible. Several scenarios are prepared, e.g. around creating a new-economy business model, making a road map and choosing guiding principles in the journey towards a societal goal, or: finding ways to respect Humanity’s Code of Care in living and working together.
Description

For whom
The compass poster is developed for initiatives in a city, rural area or neighbourhood in which the people would like to contribute to greening the economy, creating a peaceful and inclusive society and bringing in more nature.
The scenario
Voices in the city working together like bees in a hive is a scenario for a group (or groups) of four people, which can carry big questions or issues they would like to explore and reflect on. The group members each represent a certain voice and each works with their own poster. The real-life based overview shows what is of key importance, seen from their perspective. It brings the main points, priorities and opportunities to the fore. Based on the overview the group (or groups) can explore principles to guide them on the way.
The sticker sets
The sticker and symbol set and the compass poster complement each other. The aim for the sticker sets is to capture in them both the present-day reality and the desired economy, society and nature. This way the outcomes of a lifemaps project will be realistic and useful for a transition.
On their way
People arrive at their poster. They come present, both as a representative and a person. They step on the road and their journey begins. From the communal past, the road leads via the present to the future and runs up to the horizon. The road doesn’t end there but just disappears out of sight.
The sun
In the sun, the mission or greater goal is pictured. During the journey, it will always be visible to the travellers. Having the sun in sight during the mapping will draw the travellers. The sun also symbolises fulfilment. On it, those outcomes of earlier work or projects, which created success and added value, are made visible. Having that which is fulfilled in sight invigourates people.
The four tracks
On the poster there are four tracks to place the chosen stickers on. What names they carry, will be related to the big question or issue, the group (or groups) will work with.
Choosing stickers
Sticker sets are revisited for each lifemaps project, to match with the actual reality and include relevant themes for the future. The quality and (intended) completeness of the selection as well as the holistic nature of the sticker sets is a success factor for a project.
Exploring a compass
Once the whole poster has been filled in, it’s time to take some distance to study the image on the poster: the connections, points for development and strength, priorities and voids. To extrapolate what this means for the near future, with a view to the mission and greater goal. Ideas for a compass come to the fore in the process.
